This instant classic was a very fun production. My role within our group production were as follows. I helped generate the idea of the film. I gave mainly the basic idea while as a group we fine tuned it. I also was the "major" editor. Mainly the one clicking the mouse while we all collectively edited the movie as a group. I also did a small acting scene.

I played the part of "Willie Hayes" the guy trying to sell the Bridge Kit. I also helped fine tune some ideas and lines and participated in decision making for the editing.

I helped come up with the idea behind the video and I organized communication and a meeting time. I filmed most of the film and I was in it a little bit too. I helped with details in the script and in editing as well.

First off, I'd like to say how great our group was. Everyone worked together and got along very well. It was a pleasure. In creating the video, after the infomercial idea was brought up, I, along with the rest of the group, came up with lines for the script. I played small acting roles in two scenes, and aided a little in editing by providing opinions for Nick.

yeah pretty much our group was amazing, it was awesome working with everyone. My role in the film was the voice of Van Djyk and also some small acting roles. I was also part of the group effort of coming up with interesting and hilarious lines to make our video the best ever

I made a cameo appearance as the camera man for the credits segment.

yes, we much appreciated the filming of the credits done by chris.. so like everyone pretty much already said we worked most of this out as a group. Four of us came up with the idea of an infomercial at the first class meeting. I contributed in assisting the "major editor" aka nick wirbinski, with editing the film and adding amazing transitions.. i did not star in this amazing film, due to winning best out of 5 in paper, rock, scissors.. but i did assist in coming up with the script and witty ideas for scenes...

Sorry, I didn't read the e-mail before I posted. I think the video enriched the class because it went over a review of Vad Dijk's four barriers to access, and examples of each. But it also showed how it wasn't necessarily easy. This could be seen by the fact that we used my epically huge Biology book as three different manuals, showing that it was a substantial amount of work to learn how to use computers. Also, the price of the product was fairly expensive (five payments of $59.99.) My role in the group, especially helping with the storyline made me think of the Digital Divide in a new way. We were treating the project satirically, but it made me realize that while you can get by on the wrong side of the Digital Divide, it is a large divide to bridge. Also, editing took us a while, and I would have NEVER been able to do that, so it showed that while you can have all the access in the world, you can still be behind, and not have all the information to use technology to it's full extent.

That's pretty much it, I think.

To be more in depth, I felt that attempting to pitch "The Bridge Kit" helped me understand how hard it could be to cross the digital divide because while our commercial made it look easy there were a few catches like the fact that the price I read off was rather high which emphasizes the fact that socio-economic status plays a large role in people's access to technology and the internet. Also the infomercial concept is a little bit silly and fun but also infomercials often exaggerate the ease with which one can do something in order to sell the product and I felt like trying to sell this product in this way only helped show, albeit subtly, that crossing the digital divide is not easy, there will always be those hidden catches that the advertiser will not tell you about. For instance we provided an Ethernet cable but no computer and no internet service in our kit. I felt like helping edit the video was also interesting since, like Coral said, I would not have been able to do that, or at least I would have had to learn on my own if it had not been for Nick. Also I think the project helped me view the class in a more fun way while still considering serious content. This put a whole new perspective on an article (the VanDijk article) that I had found a little bit boring to read.

a. )How did making this video enrich your classroom experience?
This video allowed for me to take concepts learned throughout the course (with a main emphasis on access) and portray them in a satirical video. The video supplemented the course well, allowing me to take concepts I found important and reinforcing them in the video.
b.) How do you think differently about 202 issues now that you made the video?
Previously I did not think highly of lis 202, not to degrade the class at all, but I felt like it over complicated simplistic ideas. I felt at times that words were made up to define concepts that didnt need defining in the first place! Now that the end of the semester is here and the videos have been made I view the course differently. The video allowed me to add humor to further enhance the course material. the video allowed me to reflect upon the class and come to the realization that the concepts in 202 can be applied outside of library studies. The 202 material need no be confined to library studies but can be used to further understand other differences within todays society. The video has allowed me to further wonder what other divides society has created within itself? and how to bridge or bond these unnecessary gaps?
c.) What did your role in the video have to do with that?
My role in the video as previously mentioned in another blog, was contributing to the forming of the video idea, writing lines/script, and assisting in the editing process.
