I'd say no...not yet at least. I do think that an online enviorment can certainly be a 3rd place in some situations. For example: facebook. I live a busy life and tend to travel behind the times, so that was all new to me. I am completly amazed in a matter of 3 weeks how many poeple i've connected and re-connected with, many of whome I hadn't seen since childhood. But it's a place that I now connect with my firends and share some laughs. As far as this blog goes, I think that if/when we get to know one another and warm up a bit it could potentially develope to a 3rd space but for right now, I'd say no.

It is hard for me to think that getting to know people would potentially allow blogging to become a third space. I feel like people can represent themselves however they want on the internet and no one would know the difference. For example, a person could introduce himself to someone and say that he is playful and inviting and other people may never get that impression. This could potentially ruin the playful atmosphere for many other people.
I see what you're saying, and think ultimately you our thoughts are about in the same place... I don't feel that blogging with random people developes any sort of a meaningful relationship with the other individuals and therefore is not a 3rd place. For example...I think you and I may share similar opinions, though as I don't know you, your opinion honestly means very little to me. likewise, I'm sure my opinion won't be altering your life anytime soon. On the other hand, If I started a blog with my personal friends, I would consider that to be a third place, as we know one another outside of the blog, making the blog a meting place for us. At present time, our class represents a group of random contributors, though I think with time, people will start to know each other a bit better from face-to-face, or in-class contact, and then can start attributing opinions to people, and then maybe we'll have a 3rd place.
I agree that this blog is not a third place yet. I don't feel like its a home away from home. To me though, a third place is where somebody physically goes. And we "go" here, but not physcially. However, compared to other blogs, I think we are more of a third place. Blogs are everywhere over the Internet. The one unique difference this blog has, is that we have seen every blogger in person. We can put a face and personality when we read the bloggers name. In a way, its more of a third place then a regular blog. But I agree this can help those shy people (like me) have their voices heard as well. I think it will have be beneficial to the class as a whole once we get in person and talk. We won't be shy of the other students.
